Pain Relief Medicines Added to Spinal Injection for Back Surgery

This trial tests whether adding one of two different medicines (dexmedetomidine or ketamine) to a numbing injection in the lower spine improves pain relief after back surgery. You would receive the injection while asleep during surgery to help manage pain afterward.

  • Between 21 and 60 years old
  • Scheduled for lower spine (lumbosacral) surgery under general anesthesia
  • In generally good health (ASA Class I or II—no serious heart, lung, or other organ problems)
  • Able to understand and sign an informed consent form
  • No allergies to the medicines used in this study
  • No bleeding disorders or active infection at the injection site
