- You are older than 40.
- You are scheduled for elective colon surgery where the doctor will reconnect the colon (not involving the rectum).
- You have a 50% or more blockage in the superior mesenteric artery (the main artery supplying blood to the intestine), but without any symptoms.
- You do not have a blockage of 50% or more in the celiac artery (another major abdominal artery).
- You are not pregnant or have any condition that prevents use of the study medications.
