Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have kidney stones and be eligible for a type of surgery called retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS)
  • You cannot have other surgeries done at the same time, like PCNL
  • You cannot have cancer, urinary tuberculosis, immune system diseases, or hyperthyroidism
  • You cannot have congenital kidney problems like polycystic kidney disease or horseshoe kidney
  • You must have no untreated urinary tract infection and be healthy enough for surgery
