Who can take part

  • You must have symptoms or tests that suggest a problem with your mitochondria (the energy parts of your cells).
  • You need to have a mitochondrial DNA change that doctors aren't sure about yet.
  • A muscle biopsy must show at least 5 fibers that don't stain for a certain enzyme (COX-negative).
  • Your muscle biopsy slides must be available for the researchers to review.
  • You or your legal guardian must sign a consent form.
