Who can take part

  • Be at least 18 years old and English-speaking
  • Be a current patient of UAB Dental School
  • Have a single missing tooth site planned for implant placement with thin or insufficient gum tissue
  • Have healthy teeth or implants on both sides of the missing tooth
  • Smoke 10 or fewer cigarettes per day (non-smokers preferred)
  • Not need other tooth or root canal surgery near the implant site during the study
