Home-based eye-movement training after right-side stroke

Spatial Neglect

This trial tests a home-based treatment using eye-movement exercises to help people recover from a right-sided stroke affecting neglect (difficulty noticing the left side of space). A therapist will visit your home to teach and monitor the treatment over several months.

Who can take part

  • Had a first stroke on the right side of your brain more than 6 months ago
  • Are 60 years old or older
  • Have moderate to severe neglect (difficulty noticing the left side) confirmed by formal assessment
  • Have a specific eye-movement pattern called 'impaired gaze deviation' noted in your medical records or recent testing
  • Live within 50 miles of Duke University in North Carolina
  • Can speak and understand English well enough to follow verbal instructions
