Blood Boost for Patients With Heart Valve Infections

Who can take part

  • 18 years or older
  • Confirmed bacterial infection of the heart valve
  • Low hemoglobin (red blood cell protein) at 6.0 mmol/L or below
  • Stable condition after at least 10 days of IV antibiotics (and 7 days after surgery if you had valve surgery)
  • No fever for at least 2 days and no active infection signs in recent blood tests
  • Able to walk and complete a 6-minute walking test
