Brain Activity Changes After Depression Treatment

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

This study measures how brain activity in specific regions changes after you receive electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or magnetic seizure therapy (MST) for severe depression. Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with major depression (confirmed by two psychiatrists)
  • Your doctor has determined you're a good candidate for ECT or MST treatment
  • You have at least 5 years of formal education completed
  • You can hear and see well enough to participate in the study
  • You have not received ECT or MST treatment in the past 6 months
  • You do not have other serious mental health conditions, brain injuries, or neurological diseases
