Who can take part

  • You are generally healthy or have only mild health conditions (ASA status I or II)
  • You can eat or drink by mouth without problems
  • You are having surgery that requires general anesthesia (being put to sleep)
  • Surgery is expected to last 4 hours or less
  • You are not currently taking corticosteroids or insulin medicines
  • You do not have thyroid problems, severe acid reflux, or mental health conditions requiring active treatment
