Who can take part

  • Be a woman between 18 and 45 years old
  • Exercise at least 5 hours per week doing endurance sports (running, cycling, swimming, etc.) for the past 6 months, with 3+ intense sessions weekly
  • Have a low iron level (serum ferritin below 30 ug/L) confirmed by a blood test
  • Have a regular menstrual cycle and no changes to birth control in the past 6 months
  • Be in generally good health with a normal weight (BMI 18.5–32.5) and no serious digestive, heart, or blood disorders
  • Not smoke, not use new vitamins or supplements during the study, and agree to stop all supplements 24 hours before each visit
