- You are 18 years or older
- You are having a planned (non-emergency) brain or nervous system surgery
- You have not had any surgery in the last 30 days
- You do not currently have an active infection anywhere in your body
- Your blood sugar is not severely elevated (below 600 mg/dL)
- You do not have diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes complication)
