Who can take part

  • You are 60 years old or older.
  • You have type 2 diabetes and have been taking diabetes medication for at least 3 months before surgery.
  • You are scheduled for elective heart surgery using a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass).
  • Your surgery involves at least two heart procedures, such as bypass, valve repair, or others.
  • You are able to provide written consent to participate.
