Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are scheduled for primary lumbar or thoracolumbar spine fusion surgery (first-time spinal instrumentation)
  • You don't have allergies to ropivacaine or epinephrine (local anesthetics and medications used in the nerve blocks)
  • You don't have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners that can't be managed safely
  • You are not pregnant
  • You can report your pain level accurately after surgery
