Who can take part
- You are 18–50 years old
- You have septic shock (a serious infection causing circulatory failure)
- You have at least one sign of acute circulatory failure: very low blood pressure, rapid heartbeat (>120 bpm), very low urine output, high blood lactate, or delayed skin color return
- You do not have major heart valve disease (severe aortic valve problems)
- You do not have significant carotid artery narrowing (>50%) or previous carotid surgery
- You do not have certain heart rhythm problems (atrial fibrillation or frequent irregular heartbeats) that would prevent accurate heart imaging
