Who can take part
- You have end-stage renal disease (kidneys no longer work) and need or plan to start hemodialysis within 60 days
- You are 18 years or older and in generally stable health with at least 2 years expected life expectancy
- Your blood vessels meet size requirements: arm artery at least 4 mm wide and axillary vein (upper arm vein) at least 7 mm wide
- Your heart function is acceptable: ejection fraction at least 40%, blood pressure at least 120 systolic, and no significant lung or heart valve problems
- You have no active infections, blood clotting disorders, severe diabetes, or severe heart disease
- You agree to follow all study procedures and attend follow-up visits for the duration of the trial
