This trial compares two treatments for persistent corneal surface wounds that haven't healed with standard care. You'll receive either insulin eye drops or a special tissue graft to help your cornea heal.

Who can take part

  • You have a corneal epithelial defect (a sore on the clear front of your eye) that has not improved after 2 or more weeks of standard treatment
  • You do not have uncontrolled diabetes or other systemic autoimmune conditions
  • You have not had eye surgery in the past 3 months
  • You do not have a hereditary corneal disease (an inherited eye condition affecting your cornea)
  • You do not currently have an active infection in your eye

This Phase 2 trial tests whether a treatment gel called NEXAGON (lufepirsen) can improve healing and safety in people with a persistent corneal problem called PCED that hasn’t gotten better despite standard non-surgical treatments. You may be a candidate if your defect has lasted at least 2 weeks and hasn’t improved recently, and if you don’t have certain eye infections or other eye conditions.
