Who can take part

  • Body mass index (BMI) greater than 40 kg/m² (roughly 250+ pounds for a 5'5" person)
  • General health status classified as ASA II (you have mild, controlled medical conditions but are otherwise healthy enough for surgery)
  • Willing to undergo abdominal ultrasound imaging to measure diaphragm movement
  • No history of chronic lung diseases such as COPD, asthma, or interstitial fibrosis
  • Able to consent and participate without refusing study procedures
