Who can take part

  • You are between 60 and 100 years old
  • You are scheduled for elective (planned) total hip arthroplasty—a complete hip replacement
  • Your overall health is stable enough for surgery (ASA physical status I, II, or III)
  • You can understand the study and sign a consent form
  • You do not have a known allergy to ropivacaine, morphine, or dexamethasone
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners that would prevent safe spinal/nerve injections
