Liver Stiffness Testing and Biopsy for Chronic Liver Disease

Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 80 years old
  • Have chronic liver disease (hepatitis B, fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, or other chronic liver disease) that needs a liver biopsy
  • Be able to tolerate an endoscopic procedure (a camera-guided tube passed down your throat)
  • Have blood clotting levels within safe range for biopsy (platelet count above 50, normal clotting time)
  • Not have advanced cirrhosis with complications like bleeding, fluid buildup, or confusion
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
