Who can take part

  • Age 18–65 years old
  • Chronic lower back pain lasting more than 3 months with moderate-to-severe pain (score above 40 on a 0–100 pain scale)
  • Confirmed diagnosis of lumbar spondylosis (spine wear-and-tear visible on X-ray) without signs of infection or cancer
  • Your back pain fits the traditional medicine pattern of 'blood stasis' (pain after heavy lifting or sudden movement, worse with activity, and specific tongue or pulse signs)
  • Fluent in Vietnamese and able to complete questionnaires
  • No history of serious allergic reactions to acupuncture or catgut embedding procedures
