Who can take part

  • Hemoglobin level above 16.5 g/dL (men) or 16.0 g/dL (women)—meaning you have more red blood cells than normal
  • Body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 40—a measure based on your height and weight
  • Not currently taking ACE inhibitors or potassium-sparing diuretics (blood pressure or water pills)
  • Not a current smoker, and if you quit smoking, it must have been at least 12 months ago
  • No history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) or facial swelling (angioedema)
  • Blood pressure between 90/60 and 160/100 mmHg—not too low or too high
