Who can take part

  • You are having non-cardiac surgery (surgery not on the heart)
  • Surgery is expected to last at least 60 minutes
  • You are an adult
  • Your weight and body size fit certain ranges (BMI between 18.5 and 35)
  • You have had a kidney function blood test (creatinine) in the past 6 months and will have one within a week after surgery
  • Your kidneys are working normally before surgery—no chronic kidney disease or severe kidney problems
