Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are scheduled for a surgery that is not on your heart.
  • You do not have end-stage kidney disease and have not needed dialysis in the past year.
  • You have not had acute kidney injury (sudden kidney damage) in the week before surgery.
  • Your surgery is expected to last at least 2 hours.
  • A frailty assessment (a check of your overall health and strength) is done before surgery.
