This research study uses MRI imaging and local anesthetic (numbing medicine) to better understand how anesthesia works. You'll receive numbing medication in your mouth area while inside an MRI machine to help doctors improve pain management techniques.

Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older
- You are in good overall health (no serious medical conditions that would make anesthesia risky)
- You can visit the University of Minnesota clinic in person on scheduled study days
- You have no metal implants, pacemakers, or other devices that could react badly to MRI
- You can open your mouth at least 15mm (about the width of a finger) without pain or restriction
- You are not pregnant and have no active infections in your mouth or jaw area
