- You are 18 years old or older
- You have a hip fracture that needs surgery
- Your surgery will use spinal anesthesia (numbing medicine injected near your spine)
- You are in reasonably good overall health (ASA status I–III)
- You do not have serious nervous system or brain disorders
- You are not allergic to the pain-relief drugs used in this study
