- Be between 65 and 75 years old (or 18–22 if you're a healthy university student for comparison)
- Live independently in the community and walk without help on flat ground
- Be able to stand without holding onto someone or something for balance

- Not have had major leg, hip, or knee surgery or injury in the last 6 months
- Not have uncontrolled heart or lung disease, severe vision problems, or chronic leg pain that affects walking
