Kidney Damage from Stomach Bleeding

This study looks at how stomach bleeding (vomiting blood or black stools) can affect kidney function. Researchers will track patients admitted to Sohag University Hospitals to understand if and how kidneys are damaged during upper GI bleeding and what factors make this more likely to happen.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You have signs of upper stomach/esophagus bleeding (vomiting blood, coffee-ground material, or black stools)
  • Your bleeding has been confirmed by endoscopy (a camera test down your throat) or strong clinical evidence
  • You are admitted to Sohag University Hospitals
  • Your kidney function can be measured with blood tests at admission and during your stay
  • Your baseline kidney function (from the past 3–12 months) is available or can be estimated
