Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have been on maintenance dialysis (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) for at least 3 months.
  • You have not changed your dialysis schedule or medications that affect gut bacteria in the last month.
  • You do not have a history of serious gut problems (like inflammatory bowel disease, prior stomach surgery, or bowel obstruction).
  • You have not had a heart attack, stroke, or been hospitalized for heart problems in the last 3 months.
  • You are not allergic to the study medication (coated aldehyde oxystarch).
