Improving leg function after amputation with mild electrical and pressure therapy

Lower Limb Amputation Above KneeBelow Knee Amputation

This study tests if two non-invasive treatments — gentle electrical stimulation on the skin and brief pressure cycles on the leg — can improve how well you walk and move after having a lower limb amputation. You would visit the research lab several times to receive these treatments and have your walking, balance, and strength measured.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have had one leg amputated below or above the knee (not both legs).
  • You can walk on your own without using a cane or walker.
  • You can walk for at least 6 minutes without stopping.
  • Your residual limb (stump) and other leg have no open wounds or sores.
  • You have a well-fitting prosthetic leg that is safe to use during the study.
