Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older with any type of cancer that causes severe pain.
  • You have been using strong painkillers (opioids) for at least 4 weeks but they are no longer working well or cause side effects that stop you from taking more.
  • Your pain is still at least 5 on a 0–10 scale when at rest, despite trying more than one opioid rotation.
  • You can receive the spinal-cord pump (intrathecal drug delivery device) and follow all study visits.
  • Your life expectancy is 6 months or more.
  • You are not pregnant or planning pregnancy within 1 month after the study.
