This study is for people having nose surgery under general anesthesia. It looks at whether intentionally lowering blood pressure during surgery (called controlled hypotension) affects brain proteins and thinking ability after surgery. If you're in good health and having a routine nose job, this study may help doctors understand how to protect your brain during anesthesia.

Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a nose job (rhinoplasty) or nose-and-septum surgery under general anesthesia.
  • You are in good general health (ASA I or II, meaning healthy or mild medical condition).
  • You have no history of stroke, epilepsy, or other brain/nerve disease, and no serious psychiatric disorder.
  • You do not have severe problems with memory or thinking.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Your surgery is expected to last 3 hours or less (so no complex rib cartilage grafts).
