This study compares different ways to fix broken forearm bones in adolescents aged 10 to 16. It may help if your child has a fracture that needs surgery because the bones are too angled or shifted.

Who can take part

  • Your child is between 10 and 16 years old when the injury happens.
  • The break is in the main part of the forearm bones (radius or ulna), not near the wrist or elbow.
  • The fracture failed to stay in good position after trying to reset it without surgery, or it is an open fracture (bone sticking through skin, Gustilo type I only).
  • The wrist growth plate is still open or partially open on X-rays.
  • Your child does not have certain other injuries like a severe open fracture, a broken elbow on the same side, or a bone disease that weakens the bone.
