Who can take part
- You have type 2 diabetes with kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy).
- Your blood lead level is at least 5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dl).
- Your kidney function is at stage 3 or better (CKD stage ≤3).
- You have less than 8 grams of protein in your urine over 24 hours.
- You are 18 years or older.
- You do not have high blood pressure or high cholesterol that is not controlled.
- You do not have autoimmune disease, history of cancer, or past work exposure to lead.
- You are not allergic to calcium disodium edetate (the trial drug).
