Reminders for better breathing after surgery

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are having non-cardiac surgery under general anesthesia and plan to stay in the hospital at least one night.
  • Your doctor has assessed your risk of lung problems after surgery (ARISCAT score) as 26 or higher.
  • You are able to use an incentive spirometer (a breathing exercise device) and are willing to do so.
  • You can see and hear the reminders from the device (no severe vision or hearing problems).
