- You have a fresh, closed fracture of the lower shin bone (tibia) that is not open to the skin.
- Your injury happened less than 3 weeks ago.
- You were able to walk on your own before the injury (using a cane or walker is okay).

- You have no other broken bones on the same leg, and the skin around the fracture is in good condition.
