Low-dose radiation after revision knee replacement for stiffness

This study tests whether a single low dose of radiation after revision knee replacement surgery can help reduce stiffness and improve knee movement in people who had a stiff knee after their first replacement. The radiation is given along with usual care after surgery.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You are having a second knee replacement (revision) with a special hinged knee implant for stiffness after your first knee replacement.
  • Your knee bends less than 70 degrees or is stuck in a bent position (flexion contracture) more than 20 degrees.
  • The stiffness is not due to a known cause like a loose or misplaced implant, infection, or fracture.
  • You have not had an infection in the same knee before.
  • You are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the study.
