Who can take part

  • You must be 55 years old or older.
  • You must be admitted to the emergency intensive care unit (ICU) within the last 24 hours.
  • You must not have delirium (confusion) at the start of the study.
  • You must have a diagnosis of an infection (like sepsis, urinary tract infection, or pneumonia).
  • You must be able to communicate and have a family caregiver who can participate.
  • You must not have severe vision or hearing problems, recent surgery (within 7 days), a history of substance abuse or mental illness, or be expected to live less than 7 days.
