A folate-based PET scan for suspected heart inflammation or infection
Part of Heart & circulation clinical trials.
This trial tests a new imaging tracer called folate PET to see if it can help diagnose two heart conditions: cardiac sarcoidosis (inflammation in the heart) and infective endocarditis (infection on heart valves). If successful, it could offer a more accurate and targeted way to spot these problems early.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You need to be able to give written informed consent to take part.
- You must have a suspected heart condition: either cardiac sarcoidosis (a type of heart inflammation) or an infection on the heart valves (endocarditis).
- If you are a healthy volunteer, you must be a woman over 50 and past menopause, with no major health conditions.
- You cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding, and if you can become pregnant, you must use effective birth control during the study.
- You cannot have severe kidney disease (eGFR less than 20).
- You cannot have taken strong immune-suppressing medicines for more than 7 days before the scan.

This trial tests whether a special patient education program helps produce clearer heart PET scan images when checking for heart inflammation or infection. The program teaches patients how to follow a special diet and preparation steps before the scan.
This study tests if a special PET scan with 64Cu-DOTATATE can detect inflammation in the heart caused by sarcoidosis. It may help diagnose heart sarcoidosis more accurately in people with symptoms or known disease.
This study uses a special PET scan (68Ga-FAPI) to look at inflammation in the heart. It may help researchers understand heart failure and cardiac sarcoidosis better.
This study tests a new type of PET scan using a special tracer called Al18F-NOTA-FAPI-04 to see if it can better detect cancer, heart disease, or immune system conditions. The goal is to find out how well this imaging method works for diagnosis or monitoring of these diseases.
This trial uses a special PET scan tracer to see if it can help find and monitor diseases linked to a protein called FAP. It is for both cancer patients needing a biopsy and healthy volunteers.
This study tests a new PET imaging agent that may help doctors see amyloid buildup in the heart more clearly. It may help people with heart amyloidosis or those suspected of having it.
