Who can take part

  • You are having an operation that uses a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass)
  • The surgery is to treat congenital heart problems (like a hole in the heart) or repair certain heart valves
  • You have not had any previous heart surgery
  • You do not have a past history of atrial fibrillation or other rhythm problems (arrhythmias) before this operation
  • You have not had a history of heart failure
