Training with a leg exoskeleton after stroke

This trial tests a “human–machine” leg exoskeleton system to help people with stroke improve standing and walking during rehab. You may be able to participate if you have certain levels of disability and spasticity, can safely stand and walk with help, and don’t have skin, joint, or medical issues that would make training unsafe.

Who can take part

  • You had a stroke at least 3 months ago (sub-acute) or at least 6 months ago (chronic).
  • You can think clearly enough to follow instructions (Mini-Mental State score above 24).
  • Your day-to-day disability after stroke is mild to moderate (Modified Rankin score 2–4).
  • Your muscle stiffness/spasticity is not too severe (Modified Ashworth score 2 or less).
  • Your skin is healthy (no wounds or problems where the device would touch).
  • Your joints can move enough to safely train: hip, knee, and ankle have the required motion range.
