This trial studies stereotactic body radiation therapy (high-precision radiation given in a few sessions) for liver metastases when surgery isn’t possible. It may help shrink or control tumors in the liver and delay progression in people whose cancer has not spread outside the liver (or only to areas treated with a curative plan).

Who can take part

  • You can do daily activities reasonably well (Karnofsky score 70 or higher).
  • You have 1 to 4 liver metastases, with each one no bigger than 5 cm.
  • Your liver metastases are not removable by surgery, or you’re not well enough for surgery.
  • Your original cancer is one of these: colon cancer, anal canal cancer, or certain gut neuroendocrine tumors.
  • Your cancer is not outside the liver, or there is no other outside-the-liver disease planned for treatment with a cure.
  • You can wait at least 2 weeks after finishing chemotherapy before starting the SBRT radiation.
