Genetic testing to study who develops heart failure during breast cancer therapy

Who can take part

  • You are enrolled as a European American or African American participant.
  • You have available DNA samples for genetic testing.
  • You either developed congestive heart failure (CHF) after completing breast cancer treatment with an anthracycline and bevacizumab, or you completed the full treatment without CHF.
  • If you are African American, your heart function likely changed in a way the study defines: a drop in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) below 50% or a drop from your starting level of more than 20 points.
  • The study groups people into “cases” (CHF) and “controls” (no CHF) based on the timing and results after treatment.
