Who can take part

  • You have a BMI over 35 (obesity group) or under 30 (non-obesity group)
  • You are planning bariatric surgery if you are in the obesity group
  • You are planning abdominal surgery if you are in the non-obesity group
  • You have not been taking vitamin or dietary supplements regularly in the last 3 months
  • If you are in the non-obesity group, you are not significantly undernourished or rapidly losing weight
  • If you are in the non-obesity group, you do not currently have an infection or strong inflammation and you are considered a cancer patient or not excluded as “non-cancerous”
