Who can take part
- Age 16 to 70 and able to sign consent and attend all study visits
- Invasive breast cancer confirmed by biopsy, and HER2-negative (and ER-negative for the triple-negative group)
- Either: triple-negative (ER-negative and HER2-negative) breast cancer, OR a inherited BRCA (gBRCA) mutation with HER2-negative breast cancer
- Your tumor should be considered locally advanced (for example: larger tumor, spread to certain lymph nodes, inflammatory cancer, or skin/chest wall involvement)
- You must have starting biopsy tissue available for multiple special lab tests and be well enough for chemotherapy (doctor says chemotherapy is safe; bone marrow/liver/kidney labs acceptable; general functioning score 0 or 1)
