Who can take part
- Be age 18 to 65
- If you have alcoholic liver disease: you must meet the study’s liver diagnosis tests (including biopsy if available)
- If you are a control: your liver blood tests (ALT and AST) must be 40 IU/L or less and your ultrasound must be normal
- Have diabetes that is not poorly controlled (HbA1c must be 9.5% or lower)
- Avoid certain excluded situations: dialysis or serious kidney disease, pregnancy, or current IV drug use
