Who can take part

  • You must be a woman aged 21 to 75.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) must be 25 or higher (overweight or obese).
  • You must live in Washington, DC Ward 5, 7, or 8, or in nearby areas of Prince George's County, Maryland.
  • You must have a smartphone that works with the study app and be willing to wear a wrist activity tracker.
  • You must be able to speak, read, and understand English at an 8th-grade level.
  • You must not have serious heart problems (like a recent heart attack or heart failure) that make exercise unsafe, and you must not be pregnant.
