Who can take part

  • You are 18+ and having a single baby with a planned C-section at 37+ weeks
  • Your standard early-pregnancy infection tests are negative (including HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B/C, chlamydia, and gonorrhea)
  • Your Group B strep test (35–37 weeks) is negative
  • Your vaginal pH is 4.5 or lower (suggesting a Lactobacillus-type vaginal balance)
  • You deliver at Inova Health System and your pregnancy doesn’t have complications that block the study procedure
  • You speak English or Spanish, and the baby can receive the study plan with standard newborn care
