Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for a procedure under general anesthesia, such as eye (vitreoretinal) or brain surgery
  • Or you need sedation in the ICU
  • Your overall health is in the ASA 1 to 3 range (generally healthier to moderately ill, not very high risk)
  • Your BMI is 35 or less
  • You are not taking opioid pain medicines like tramadol
  • You are not taking psychotropic medicines (for mental health) or benzodiazepines
