Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 85 years old
  • You are scheduled for a planned (not emergency) surgery that is not on your heart
  • Your surgery is expected to last at least 2 hours
  • You will receive general anesthesia with a breathing tube and a specific mix of medicines (propofol, remifentanil, and sevoflurane or desflurane)
  • Your blood pressure will be measured continuously through a small tube in your artery during surgery
  • You are not severely obese (BMI less than 35)
  • You do not have severe heart failure, unstable angina, or a recent heart attack (within 30 days)
