Who can take part
- You have AML with at least 20% leukemia cells (called blasts) OR high-risk MDS with more than 10% blasts.
- Your disease has the FLT3 mutation type the study is looking for (FLT3-ITD, with or without FLT3-TKD), based on a recent blood or bone marrow test.
- If you are in the first-time (frontline) group: you are age 60+ and not able to receive intensive chemotherapy, or you must be otherwise considered not fit for it.
- If you are in the relapse group: you are age 18+ and your AML came back or did not respond to prior treatment, and you are not eligible for (or choose not) curative options.
- Your heart and breathing tests meet study limits (for example, ejection fraction must be at least 50%, and certain lung/heart measures must not be too low).
- You can take pills by mouth and have the ability to understand and sign consent; also, you cannot have certain major drug allergies or have taken quizartinib before.
